8 Sentence Sunday on Dieselpunks #7
This passage from chapter 5 is the first in Blood’s POV and it gave me endless headache.
Blood is a different kind of character and I actually poured much efforts in trying to depict his ‘otherness’, especially when in his POV.
See if I had any success.
Cindy swayed. Blood saw her eyes glaze over the moment the voices became loud enough for him to hear. He peered into the apartment over Cindy’s shoulder. Into the box of candle smoke and thick presences. He saw them. Dark clouds bellowing in the darkened room, mingling with the wispy smoke from the candles. Red and yellow eyes piercing in from across a flimsy veil. They all turned to him when they smelled him.

You have a very nice site too. A team effort, I understand. Hey, I didn’t know it excists a ‘NaNoWriMo’ for poets. That’s cool! How does it work? Are you suppose to write 50k words of poetry? Maybe it’s because I’m not a poetry gal, but that sounds a lot tougher than writing 50k words of story to me.

NaPoWriMo happens in April. One has to write 30 poems in 30 days. We generally go with the theme of different poetry styles, but there are a lot of ways one could do it.
I’ve done both NaPoWriMo and NaNoWriMo. I’ll happily do NaPoWriMo again. I hated NaNoWriMo with a purple passion and only finished it because I’m a stubborn cuss. I fear that what I wrote was mostly rubbish. I haven’t been able to touch it again.

Really you hated the NaNo??? Oh, I loved it, instead. Ghost Trilogy was born during a NaNo four years ago. It was the whole thing, the idea I was writing together with so many other people, testing my motivation, and the fun challenges I did with friends, the teasing. I loved it.
I also wrote a lot. The first thing I wrote (I won’t even call it a first draft) didn’t sound like the project as it is today, but putting ideas on paper helped me shaping them into what the story is now. Gave me kind of a vision, you know 😉
But yeah, I suppose it depends on what media you feel more comfortable with. I wouldn’t even be able to do a NaPoWriMo.
I think you capture Blood’s otherness really well here by focusing the reader on Blood’s visual acuity, the details he and he alone would pick up on. Good stuff!
